UPDATE: A recently discovered body found in a Monongalia County river has been identified by authorities.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office reports that the body located in the Monongahela River on March 27, 2024, has been identified as 48-year-old James R. Weaver of Arthurdale, WV.
Weaver was previously reported missing to the Westover Police Department on February 14, 2024.
The investigation into Weaver’s disappearance remains ongoing, and those with any information pertaining to the investigation have been asked to call 304-291-7218 or email info.monongliasheriff.gov
No additional information is expected to emerge in relation to the investigation at the time of writing.

GRANVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An investigation is underway after a body was discovered in a West Virginia river this afternoon.
According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 1:09 pm today, March 27, the Granville Police Department was dispatched to the area of Lazzelle Union Road near Scotts Run for a body found in the Monongahela River.
Once they established that this was outside their jurisdiction, they contacted the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office to respond to investigate.
Monongalia County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives arrived and investigated the scene.
With the assistance of the Granville Police Department, Granville Fire Department, Mon EMS, and Monongalia County Medical Examiners, the body was removed from the water.
The body was then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
No further information will be released at this time.
