James L. Hendricks, Sr., age 94, of Vivian, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 14th at his home. He was born October 28, 1928, in Vivian, WV to the late Floyd B. Hendricks, Sr. and the late Ona Elizabeth Williams Hendricks.
James was a 1948 graduate of Welch High School and retired as a mechanic from Cannelton Industries Coal Company. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing his guitar, singing country songs, and yodeling. He loved sitting beside the rail yard watching the trains and was an avid fan of WVU Mountaineers and the Baltimore Orioles. He had a great sense of humor and was always there to lend a helping hand, when needed.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Hardee, Lucille Williams, Phyllis Tibbs, Florence Hendricks, Patty Walker and Sibby Turner and grandson Jeremy Hendricks and great-grandson Jarred Brooks.
James is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eva R. Hendricks of Vivian, WV; daughter Rebecca L. Cardwell and husband David of Princeton, WV; sons James L. Hendricks, Jr, of Vivian, WV and Charles Dana Hendricks and wife Gerri of South Carolina, and brother Floyd B. Hendricks (Coony) of Vivian, WV, the last surviving member of eight siblings. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, that he loved dearly. He was very proud of his family and was affectionately known as “Fuzz” by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of James will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, September 17, 2023, from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. At his request, his three children; Rev. James L. Hendricks, Jr; Rev. Charles Dana Hendricks; and Rev. Rebecca L. Cardwell will officiate the service, and friend the Rev. Walter Muncy sharing remarks, as well.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
