ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man faces charges following a Wednesday investigation into a breaking and entering incident.
As reported by Sgt. B.W. Cogar of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, authorities responded to the 266 Hayfield Loop area of Elkins regarding a Breaking and Entering reportedly in progress.
The caller stated that Justin Bryant Pennington had broken into her residence while only she and her four children were home, and that he was naked and had locked himself inside the garage.
Security footage revealed that Pennington fled the scene of the incident only minutes prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Sgt. Cogar, Deputy Knotts, and K-9 Twix were able to track the suspect to a field where a pair of shoes, socks, and a ball cap belonging to the suspect were found. The officers continued to track the trail along Haddix Road until the trail went cold.
Minutes later, as Sgt. Cogar was securing evidence, yelling could be heard from an area near Ward Road. A call was then put out by 911 for a “naked man in the hot tub” at 148 Faraway Knolls.
Deputy response to the residence came quickly after, along with response from Elkins Police Department. Pennington was placed under arrest and transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail. Additional charges pertaining to the investigation are expected to emerge.
