Hollowell Field and Beckley Little League were the sites Saturday for day two of the District 4 Little League Baseball All-Star Tournament.
When the dust settled, Princeton, Central Greenbrier, Western Greenbrier and Shady Spring moved on in the winner’s bracket.
Princeton opened the two-game set at Hollowell Field day with a 12-8 win over Beckley.
After falling behind 7-1 early, Beckley scored six runs in the top of the third to tie the game at 7-7.
The big hit in the comeback was a 3-run blast from Hunter Pettry.
Princeton regained control in the bottom of the frame sending three runners across the plate. Elijah Thyng doubled home two runs and scored the third run of the inning on a single from James Folmar.
Kaleb Roberts had a double, a single and four RBI. Josiah Tunstalle smacked a double, a triple and knocked in two runs for Princeton.
Ross Duma was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI to pace Beckley, while Kase Warden added a double and drove in three runs.
Following a semifinal run in the West Virginia State Little League Tournament last year, Central Greenbrier began its quest for another possible spot in the big dance with a 15-0 win over Bluefield in three innings.
Michael Boothe and Carter Huffman combined on a no-hitter with nine strikeouts to keep Bluefield at bay.
Boothe was a menace at the plate as well smacking two 3-run homers. Peyton Irvin ignited the Central Greenbrier offense going 3-for-3, including a home run and five RBI.
Huffman also had a home run and scored three times.
The evening action moved to Beckley where Western Greenbrier won its second game in as many days with a 12-2 triumph over New River Gorge (Fayetteville) in four innings.
Western Greenbrier built a commanding lead in the bottom of the first inning by scoring eight runs.
Back-to-back RBI-doubles from Lane Bevins and Kayden Hinkle, along with an RBI-triple from Hunter Tincher keyed the early outburst.
Dawson Holliday had a double and drove in three runs, while Caden Heimberger added a double with one RBI.
Hinkle picked up the win allowing only two hits and one earned run to go along with 11 strikeouts.
The nightcap in Beckley was a tight contest with Shady Spring beating Trap Hill 3-1.
Shady Spring took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Hunter Pennington doubled to open the at-bat and scored on a single from Jace Brunty.
Neither team could score for the next three innings, but Shady Spring found the mark in the fifth adding two more for a 3-0 lead.
With a pair of runners aboard, Lincoln Cook ripped a double to score the game deciding runs for Shady.
Trap Hill did not go away quietly adding one run in the sixth, but failed to push another run across with two outs and the bases loaded.
Winner’s bracket games continue Thursday at Beckley Little League Park. Princeton will play Western Greenbrier at 6 p.m. and Central Greenbrier and Shady Spring will clash at 8 p.m.
