LOGAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It was announced on Wednesday that the City of Logan had adopted the Logan Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance, making the city the first Class 4 municipality in the state to have done so.
The adoption of Comprehensive Plan occurred on August 8, 2022, followed by the adoption of the Zoning Ordinance on September 26, 2023.
These milestones mark a significant step forward in shaping the future of our community,” read a statement from the city. “The City of Logan is the first and only Class 4 municipality in the State of West Virginia to complete this mission, making it a historical occasion for Logan.”
The result of extensive collaboration and thoughtful planning involving community members, local businesses, and city officials, The Logan Comprehensive Plan has been established as a complete, forward-thinking document provides a roadmap for sustainable growth, development, and enhancement of they city’s quality of life.
The plan reportedly outlines key strategies to address infrastructure, transportation, housing, and environmental concerns while preserving the unique character of the city. An open house was held in August of 2022, as a means of gathering information from members of the public.
According to the City of Logan, key goals of the Comprehensive Plan include:
1. Economic Development: Fostering a diverse and robust local economy, attracting new businesses, and supporting entrepreneurship.
2. Land Use and Development: Will encourage and promote the development of a stable and diversified economic base that fosters employment opportunities for all citizens and expands on the community’s current business opportunities.
3. Transportation: The City of Logan will develop and maintain an accessible, safe and efficient transportation system that effectively addresses regional and local development patterns.
4. Community Facilities, Infrastructure, and Public Services: The city will have adequate community facilities, infrastructure, and public services that will be available and provided in an efficient manner.
5. Parks and Recreation: The City of Logan will have a strong parks and recreation system that contributes to the overall quality of life within the city and serves the needs of the local citizens while also establishing Logan as a tourist destination.
Members of the comprehensive plan board include Brannon Adams, Ken Lee and Mayor Nolletti.
“The Logan Zoning Ordinance complements the Comprehensive Plan by providing the necessary regulatory framework to implement its goals effectively,” said the City of Logan with regard to the ordinance. “It offers clear guidelines for land use, development standards, and zoning districts, ensuring that the City of Logan grows in a sustainable and organized manner.
The city makes note of the following notable features of the Zoning Ordinance:
1. Zoning Districts: Establishing specific zones for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use purposes to manage land use effectively.
2. Development Standards: Defining requirements for building height, setbacks, landscaping, and parking to maintain community aesthetics and functionality.
3. Streamlined Processes: Simplifying the permitting an approval process to encourage development while ensuring compliance with the Comprehensive Plan.
