FREMONT, CA – Authorities say a 29-year-old man used California’s Megan’s Law website to locate a registered sex offender, then disguised himself before fatally stabbing the victim in a violent attack in Fremont, CA.
Police identified the suspect as Varun Suresh, who was arrested outside the crime scene on September 18.

Officers had been called to the area for what they described as a “violent altercation” that left one man gravely injured.
Responding officers found 71-year-old David Brimmer suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later determined that Suresh and Brimmer did not know each other. According to police, Suresh sought out the victim after taking screenshots of multiple offenders listed online.
When questioned by officers, Suresh allegedly explained that he wanted to kill a sex offender because “they hurt children” and “deserve to die.”
Suresh reportedly told officers, “It is not your duty to decide whether Heaven will accept them, it’s your duty to send them to the gates.”
Authorities say the suspect dressed as an accountant and knocked on neighbors’ doors before approaching Brimmer’s home. After forcing his way inside, Suresh chased Brimmer into a neighbor’s residence.
In the kitchen of that home, police said, Suresh stabbed him in the neck. The violence continued outside, where Suresh allegedly pinned Brimmer down and told him, “It’s over, you have to repent,” before cutting his throat.
After being taken into custody, Suresh told investigators he had no plans to escape. “I wasn’t planning on getting away,” he allegedly said. He also remarked, “I’m hoping that because [the victim is] a pedophile… like, everyone hates pedophiles… so like, it should be cool.”
According to police, Suresh expressed no regret following the killing, telling them he “didn’t feel sad at all” and describing the act as “honestly really fun.”
The Fremont Police Department confirmed Suresh has been charged with murder.
