FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing fraud charges after allegedly stealing over 12,000 dollars from his brother.
According to State Troopers, the victim left his jacket and wallet inside his brother’s truck during the first part of January but didn’t get it back until later. The victim said he was out of state on March 3, 2023, when he was getting gas and discovered that he had insufficient funds. After he reviewed his bank records, he noticed that 12,107.35 was missing from his checking account.
The victim alleges that his brother, Joshua Atha, admitted to their mother about him spending his brother’s money.
Police obtained records and found 68 fraudulent cash app transactions between January and March. The total stolen was 12,046.81.
When the police interviewed the mom, she told them that Joshua told her he didn’t know it was his brother’s money and was spending what he thought was a credit card he got in the mail.
Atha is charged with fraudulent use of an access device. He is currently out on bond.
