WILLIAMSON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Mingo County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a woman and fleeing from law enforcement during a disturbance call on Vinson Street.
According to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy May was patrolling the Vinson Street area when a disturbance was reported at 801 Vinson Street. As the deputy arrived on scene, he spotted a male wearing a black jacket who immediately fled on foot. After a brief chase through an alleyway, the suspect was detained and identified as Kevin Charlton.
During the arrest, deputies discovered a small bag of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in Charlton’s pocket.
K-9 Deputy Sipple arrived on scene and reported that Alvizie Tucker, the victim, had flagged him down asking for help. Tucker told the deputy that Charlton had punched her and knocked her unconscious. She had visible injuries, including swelling around her left eye and scrapes on her knees. She was transported to ARH Hospital, where she later told officers she couldn’t remember everything after regaining consciousness but confirmed the assault.
Tucker had initially tried to seek shelter at a local domestic violence center, but it was at capacity. She then found Deputy Sipple nearby and reported the incident.
Further investigation revealed Charlton has two prior domestic battery convictions in Kanawha County from 2014 and 2023.
Charlton was taken into custody and transported to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office for processing. He now faces the following charges:
-
Felony Domestic Battery (3rd offense) – §61-2-28(d)
-
Fleeing on Foot – §61-5-1(d)
