SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested Sunday after a domestic argument escalated into an assault and the brandishing of a firearm in the Lowell area, according to the Summers County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded to Lowell Market on March 30 following a report of a domestic dispute involving a handgun.
Before deputies arrived, they were informed that the suspect and victim had left the store in a vehicle, which was later located at the Talcott Post Office.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chase Keaton, struck the victim multiple times with a closed fist.
A passing motorist who witnessed the assault attempted to intervene, at which point Keaton allegedly brandished a handgun. He then fled the scene on foot.
Deputies conducted a search of the area and located Keaton at John Henry Park, where he was taken into custody.
The firearm used in the incident was also recovered. Keaton has been charged with:
- Domestic Assault
- Domestic Battery
- Two counts of Brandishing a Firearm
While this incident was unfolding, deputies also responded to a separate domestic battery call in the Hilldale area to assist West Virginia State Police. Another arrest was made in that case.
Summers County Sheriff Justin L. Faris commended his deputies for their quick response, noting that many were off duty at the time.
“I was able to send out one message and have several deputies responding in an extremely short amount of time,” Faris said. “I would also like to commend their families for their support and sacrifices they make for the people of Summers County.”
He is currently at Southern Regional Jail.
