JUMPING BRANCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing charges following a violent altercation with his elderly parents on New Year’s Day.
As reported by Trooper First Class J.C. Woods of the West Virginia State Police, on January 1, 2023, Woods was dispatched to a Hatcher Road residence by the Summers County 911 Center regarding a domestic altercation.
Upon arrival at the scene, Woods reports witnessing the accused, Clinton Thompson, standing over his elderly father and yelling. Thompson’s father, Clancy Thompson, who was in a recliner due to being unable to walk.
The accused was detained and removed from the residence at this time, and Woods spoke with Clancy Thompson who disclosed that his son had struck him multiple times in the face. Bruising consistent with this version of events could be observed on and around Mr. Thompson’s face.
Furthermore, Mr. Thompson – who is 72 years old and requires an oxygen tube – stated that the accused had placed his hands over Mr. Thompson’s nose and mouth, closing off his airway. It was also revealed that the accused had knocked out two of Mr. Thompson’s teeth, as evidence by missing teeth and blood around his mouth area.
Trooper Woods also spoke with the mother of the accused, Drema Thompson, who is 71 years old and stated that the accused had shoved her during the altercation.
Mr. Thompson requested that Trooper Woods remove the keys from his truck, as the accused had been driving it. While removing the keys, Trooper Woods noticed an AR-15 rifle located near the rear of the truck. Beckley Radio Room advised that the accused had been convicted of felony Grand Larceny on 06/11/2007, indicating that the accused is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
When returning the keys, Trooper Woods was advised by Mrs. Thompson that the accused had removed the firearm from inside the residence and had been attempting to shoot at coyotes behind the residence. The accused also stated that he had been in possession of the firearm to attempt to shoot coyotes at the rear of the residence.
Clinton Thompson has been charged with two counts of Domestic Battery, two counts of Domestic Assault, two counts of Violent Crimes Against the Elderly, and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
Thompson is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail on a $25,000 bond.
