RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested for DUI following a crash.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, October 7, 911 dispatched a single-vehicle accident at the Lower Glady Dispersed Campground located off Sully Road in Alpena.
Deputy Pingley responded to the location. Once on scene, he observed a Toyota Tacoma with significant front-end damage. This area consisted of a gravel road with a straight path.
The vehicle had veered to the left and struck a tree, the vehicle then spun around before coming to a stop.
Deputy Pingley stated that the specific area is not an easy area to wreck a motor vehicle and either alcohol or distracted driving was suspected.
Deputy Pingley stated that he observed one of the passengers sitting in a field to the right that had vomit on his shirt. The other passengers in the vehicle had the odor of an alcoholic beverage.
Deputy Pingley then made contact and began interviewing the driver, identified as John Sandy.
Mr. Sandy had bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Mr. Sandy advised that he and his other passengers were on their way back to their camp from the Forest Festival.
Mr. Sandy advised that his vehicle lost traction on the gravel and that’s what caused the accident. Mr. Sandy stated that he had been drinking alcohol while at the Forest Festival.
The Field Sobriety test was then administered in which Mr. Sandy failed. Mr. Sandy was then placed under arrest. Alcohol was the contributing reason for the wreck.
The passengers asked for a ride back to Elkins since their only means of transportation was gone. Mr. Sandy and his passengers were then transported to the Elkins Police Department.
The passengers then went back to the Forest Festival and Mr. Sandy was then administered the intoximeter.
The results of the intoximeter were a .11 BAC. Mr. Sandy was above the legal driving limit of .08. Mr. Sandy was then transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail. The vehicle was also towed.
John Sandy was charged with DUI first offense. He is currently out on bond.
