HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Things took a sharp turn from neighborly to downright unhinged on Friday evening, April 4, 2025, when a heated feud on Bladen Lane escalated into a violent and bizarre series of events that ended with one man in cuffs—and a whole lot of questions.
Deputy C. Gibbs of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 6:00 p.m. after reports surfaced of threats and violence involving a man allegedly striking a woman with a wooden board.
Upon arrival, Deputy Gibbs met with Brenda Noe, a neighbor and one of the victims, who claimed that Derek Gibbs had been harassing her verbally throughout the day. When she stepped outside to confront him, she says he struck her on the leg with a board. Deputy Gibbs confirmed visible bruising and bleeding on Mrs. Noe’s leg, consistent with her account.
But the chaos didn’t stop there.
Wanda Johnson, another neighbor and Derek’s own mother-in-law, reported that Derek had entered her home, shouting threats to kill her and her husband, David Johnson. According to Mrs. Johnson, Derek shouted that he would “hang them in trees by their necks” before lobbing a glass lantern at her, which shattered at her feet.
When confronted, Derek Gibbs claimed he hit Brenda “by accident.” That defense didn’t hold much weight. He was promptly arrested and taken into custody.
But the drama continued in the back of the squad car, where Derek kicked the security cage, cursed at the deputy, and reportedly threatened, “I’m going to cut your throat.”
Mr. Gibbs was processed and transported to Western Regional Jail, where he now awaits arraignment on multiple charges including battery, making terroristic threats, and obstruction.
