BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting family members and fleeing from police during a disturbance Thursday night in Beckley.
According to police, officers responded on Jan. 15, 2026, to the 2200 block of Robert C. Byrd Drive after Emergency Operations Center personnel reported hearing a woman screaming and cursing during a call. Dispatchers also advised the disturbance could be physical and involved a woman giving a man a ride.
When officers arrived, they located the suspect, Roger Lambert, walking southbound along Robert C. Byrd Drive. Police say Lambert fled on foot when he saw officers exiting their patrol vehicles, leading them toward South Oakwood Avenue. During the brief chase, Lambert attempted to climb a fence and cut his arm before officers caught and detained him.
While speaking with Lambert, officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and noted his eyes were watery and bloodshot.
Investigators spoke with the victims, who told officers they were giving Lambert, a family member, a ride to his son’s residence. During the ride, Lambert allegedly choked his mother and then pulled his sister’s hair and struck her. He then exited the vehicle and walked away along Robert C. Byrd Drive.
Lambert was transported to the police department, where he initially refused to exit the patrol vehicle and had to be escorted out by officers. Police say a records check showed no prior domestic battery convictions. Due to his level of intoxication, Lambert was processed and taken directly to Southern Regional Jail.
Lambert is expected to be charged with two counts of domestic battery (first offense), fleeing on foot, obstructing an officer, and public intoxication.
