WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Shawn Paul Murphy, from Sophia, WV, pleaded guilty and was convicted of one felony count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender on March 11, 2024. Murphy will be sentenced on April 17, 2024.
On February 1, 2024, Shawn Paul Murphy visited the Jesse Detachment of the West Virginia State Police to update his annual sex offender registry. A concurrent investigation revealed that Murphy had failed to report a vehicle and a change of address.
Gregory Bishop, the Wyoming County Prosecutor, and former Trooper stated, “The State Police have the statutory duty to ensure all sex offenders comply with the sex offender registration requirements. It is comforting to know that the State Police are diligent in their responsibilities.
Coupled with the prosecutor’s office, we must ensure the safety and security of our children.”
Assistant Prosecutor Derek Laxton served as lead prosecutor in the case.
