BELLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian and single vehicle on Wednesday morning has left one man dead.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Officer reports that, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at just after 4:30am, Sheriff’s Deputy C.D. Moyers responded to a crash at the intersection of Kanawha Blvd. E (US Route 60) and Burning Springs Road in the Belle area of Kanawha County.
The accident involved one motor vehicle and a pedestrian who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies determined that the male victim was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound as he was crossing the highway near the intersection of Burning Springs Road. The incident occurred in the right traffic lane in what was reportedly a poorly lit section of highway.
Authorities reports suspicion that the victim was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, which is believed to have impacted his attentiveness to the situation. Additionally, the pedestrian is suspected to have been in violation of West Virginia State Law pertaining to proper procedure for pedestrian crossing at a highway area, according to reports.
The driver of the vehicle which struck the pedestrian was not found to be in violation of any traffic laws which would have contributed to the accident and was not found to be under the influence of any substance. The driver reportedly sustained no injuries as a result of the incident.
The identity of the male victim has not been released at the time of writing, and Sheriff’s Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit are reported to be working with the State Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the victim.
Authorities indicate that the identity of the victim will be released at a later date.
