PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A single-vehicle crash left two injured, but one fled before police arrived due to him being under the influence and intoxicated.
Putnam County 911 received a report of a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident with potential injuries on Rocky Step Rd in Winfield (Putnam County), WV, around 8:43 PM on Friday, June 14th, 2024.
The vehicle had two occupants at the time of the crash, both requiring medical attention. A passerby informed the 911 dispatcher that the occupants were injured and bleeding from the mouth. The female occupant complained of back pain and remained at the crash site, while the male occupant, later identified as the driver, fled on foot in the direction of Winfield.
The passerby mentioned that the male advised against calling 911. The female occupant sustained a fractured back and required surgery. She was transported by EMS to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV.
The female victim claimed to have been the passenger and stated that her nephew, Damion Hunter Armstead, was driving while under the influence and intoxicated at the time of the crash.
After the crash, both occupants exited the vehicle, and Damion fled the scene on foot before any emergency personnel arrived. Damion was informed of Stephanie’s injuries after the crash and purportedly dissuaded a concerned party from calling 911 and did not provide assistance.
Damion left the scene and abandoned his family member without medical attention, failing to fulfill the legal obligation to render aid to an injured person involved in the crash.
