ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested over the weekend following a series of incidents in various locations throughout the Randolph County area.
Deputy Pingley of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday, February 11, 2023, 911 dispatched a disorderly conduct complaint at the Elkins Sheetz location after an off-duty officer called in to report an individual harassing customers.
The individual – identified as Jacob Johnson – is reported to have been sitting on the floor at the Sheetz asking patrons to buy him food and alcohol.
Sgt. Cogar, Deputy Wolfe, and Deputy Pingley responded to the location where Johnson was found and taken to the outdoor seating area. There, Johnson was warned of disorderly conduct and that Sheetz wanted him removed from the property for trespassing.
Johson was given a courtesy transport by Deputy Pingley to Davis Medical Center after a request to be brought there. Upon returning to the office, Deputy Pingley contacted a family member of Johnson’s, citing concerns of his altered mental state.
Deputy Pingley reports engaging in several calls involving Johnson over the past two weeks during which Johnson has requested that Deputy Pingley and other officers shoot him or have a K-9 bite him. This family member was provided with information for a mental hygiene.
Approximately 30 minutes later, Deputy Pingley was requested to return to the Davis Medical Center Emergency Room by staff. Upon arrival, Deputy Pingley was advised to hurry to Room 4 where Mr. Johnson had become agitated and begun hitting the walls in the room. Johnson is also reported to have grabbed a chair and thrown it against the wall.
Johnson was placed in handcuffs and under arrest once Deputy Pingley arrived. The officer also learned that Johnson had stuck a toothbrush which he had in his possession down his throat and had puked it up prior to the Deputy’s arrival. A statement was taken from a witness at Davis Medical Center.
Johnson was escorted to Deputy Pingley’s police cruiser before being transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail. At TVRJ, Johnson made attempts to fight jail staff and was pepper sprayed.
Jacob Johnson was charged with disorderly conduct, and the arrest is reported to have closed the case.
