Hico – Midland Trail and Greenbrier West were hoping to avoid the rain on Monday.
That didn’t happen.
After one rain delay already, the umpires elected to resume play on Tuesday at 1 p.m. after lightning in the area forced a second delay. Play would have resumed in the bottom of the third at approximately 7:15 p.m., but Trail’s field doesn’t have lights, eliminating the ability to play late into the evening.
Instead the umpires met with the coaches for each team behind home plate and elected to resume on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Trail.
When the game resumes the score will be 3-2 with Trail on top in the bottom of the third.
Griffen Boggs, who reached on an error, will be on first with Cade Kincaid at the plate.
West drew first blood on Monday when Chase McClung lined a double into left field and scored on an error at first.
Trail scored all of its runs in the bottom of the second.
Cy Persinger drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a single by Cody Harrell. Seth Ewing popped out, but an RBI-single from Indy Eades played Perisnger and Harrell and Eades crossed the plate on a two-run single from Larry Bigham.
West added its second run when Ty Nickell drew a bases loaded walk that scored Brayden McClung.
The winner of Tuesday’s game will play at Charleston Catholic on Wednesday, needing to win tow games to win the sectional championship.
