OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after he disregarded a school bus stop sign and then lost control of his motorcycle, and crashed where officers then discovered heroin.
According to a criminal complaint, on April 14, officers observed a motorcycle traveling down White Street within the city limits of Oak Hill at a high rate of speed. Officers then observed the motorcycle run through a stop sign at the end of White Street and then ran another on East Martin Avenue.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the motorcycle as it continued up Gatewood Avenue. The motorcyclist then disregarded a school bus that had the stop sign extended and lights flashing at the intersection of Gatewood Avenue and East Wilson Street.
The driver, identified as Dennis Scarbro, then lost control of the motorcycle and crashed in the Gatewood area. He then got up to wait on officers who detained Scarbo without incident.
Scarbro told officers he was hurt and they then called EMS to the scene. After a search of Scarbro, officers discovered a container that he said was heroin.
Scarbro was then transported to a nearby hospital where officers then questioned him. He told officers that he had smoked heroin two hours before the incident.
Scarbro is being charged with fleeing from an officer and overtaking and passing a stopped school bus. He is currently out on bond.
