BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission on Tuesday approved consideration of multiple county employees including candidates for the positions of appraiser and tax deputy, respectively.
William Scott Morris was approved by commission members early in Tuesday’s meeting as Appraiser with the Raleigh County Assessor’s Office. Shortly afterward, Rebecca Heath was considered for a deputy role with the Raleigh County Sheriff Tax Department. On hand to provide context was Raleigh County Sheriff, Jim Canaday who addressed members of the commission.
“We have Miss Rebecca Heath; she’ll be starting today in the tax department. She is actually supplanting a position. We’re transferring a young lady out to the Ghent detachment when it opens,” explained Sheriff Canaday, noting that fiscally, the change would occur in the form of a budget revision. “Miss Heath is starting her training effective today so that that tax deputy will be ready to go whenever Ghent opens.”
Also approved during Tuesday’s session was a $500 grant to AWAY (formerly known as the Women’s Resource Center) which will go toward their Purple Halo Gala event.
“This is an annual event they do as a fundraiser; they do it in October and it’s called the Purple Halo Gala,” said Raleigh County Administrator, Jay Quesenberry of the event. “It’s a fundraising event for them and this helps support their activities for battered women.
