UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Buffalo, New York man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office conducted a coordinated fraud investigation and arrested him during a planned money pickup.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Coffman was dispatched to a local bank on February 20, 2026, in reference to a reported fraud.
Authorities said the scam involved individuals posing as representatives of Norton antivirus software. The scammers allegedly told the victim they had accessed inappropriate material online — which investigators determined was untrue — and demanded money.
Sheriff Coffman notified an investigator with the West Virginia State Attorney General’s Office and contacted Chief Deputy Caynor to respond.
After establishing telephone contact with the suspects, law enforcement arranged a controlled money pickup and alerted additional deputies to assist.
Sgt. Gordon was stationed at the designated pickup location while Sheriff Coffman and Chief Deputy Caynor waited nearby to intervene. The suspects later rescheduled the exchange for 9 a.m. on February 21.
Deputies reassumed their positions the following morning. When the suspect arrived to collect the money, he was taken into custody without incident.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered more than $130,000 in cash, gold coins, and electronic devices.
Authorities identified the suspect as Naymat Ulla, of Buffalo, New York. He was arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses. Ulla was transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail by Deputy Linger.
He is currently at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $650,00 cash-only bond.
The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue working closely with investigators from the West Virginia State Attorney General’s Office, the FBI, and immigration authorities as the investigation moves forward.
