CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has confirmed that at least two tornadoes touched down during recent severe storms, with both storms crossing from southeastern Ohio into northern West Virginia.
Following a storm damage survey conducted today, meteorologists determined that both tornadoes began in Washington County, Ohio, before tracking east into Pleasants County, West Virginia. One of the tornadoes continued on a non-continuous path southeast into Doddridge County.
The NWS said crews are still evaluating the storms to determine each tornado’s exact intensity, maximum width, and total path length. Those findings are expected to be released over the next several days.
Survey teams will also be back in the field tomorrow to assess additional storm damage in Barbour and Lewis counties, where more tornadoes or other significant wind damage may have occurred.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay weather aware and monitor updates as additional survey results become available.
