OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Oak Hill City Council voted Monday evening to lower the speed limit to 15 MPH on all streets in the Hidden Valley subdivision.
Oak Hill Chief of Police Mike Whisman addressed council on the topic stating he was approached by a resident who had spoken to others in the neighborhood who agreed it would be a good idea if the city lowered the speed limit.
According to Whisman, 12 streets could be affected by the change.
Whisman says three of those streets are already at 15 MPH, four are posted at 25 MPH, and five streets have no posted speed limit.
Due to the amount of houses near each other along with the multiple intersections in the area, Whisman agrees that it is a good idea.
The city will need to order around nine new speed limit signs following the city’s approval. Whisman says each sign runs between $50-75.
The change was approved on a unanimous vote.
