WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man faces serious charges after lying about someone being shot and gets over 30 officers involved in a made-up crime.
According to State Police with the Lewisburg detachment, on June 7th, Greenbrier 911 received a call about a man being shot in White Sulphur Springs in the area of Rt. 92. Â A man named Robert Baggs called in and said a man had been shot. Â Boggs then stated that he heard a female say they blew his head off, told who did it, said he was in danger, and hung up.
When a trooper arrived near the scene, he was flagged down by Robert Boggs operating a 4-wheeler. Â When Boggs got off the 4-wheeler, an officer seized a loaded pistol. Â Boggs told the officer that there were multiple men, “Green Berets,” who were planning an ambush for anyone attempting to come to the home. Â Boggs told the officer he needed to hurry; they were cleaning up the scene and would blame him for the crime and frame him.
At this time, the officer told his supervisor, who requested activation of the WVSP Special Response Team. Â SRT request was requested, and approximately 30 officers were called to assist with the situation. Â These include agencies from WV State Police in Lewisburg, WV State Police in Rainelle and Monroe, Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, DNR, White Sulphur Springs Police Department, and the Greenbrier County Taskforce Agents.
During this time, the officer traveled up to Foster Hollow Road, clearing multiple homes and resulting in the temporary gunpoint detention of at least two additional people. Â While on the scene, this officer and Sgt. Keaton spoke with numerous neighbors who stated no one heard gunshots. Â They obtained a statement from one neighbor who said he was with Robert Boggs and he had been drinking a lot. Â The neighbor also told police that about a week prior, Boggs was paranoid and made comments about men being in the woods. Â The neighbor alleges that Boggs starts drinking and seeing and making up things. Â He went on to say nothing had happened on this date.
About 2.5 hours into the investigation, officers could not validate anything Boggs informed Greenbrier 911 about. Â Boggs was arrested for causing a situation that put multiple people at serious risk of bodily injury. Â Greenbrier 911 also revealed that Boggs had been found guilty of domestic battery back in 1996, making him a prohibited person that possesses a firearm. Â His license was also revoked for a DUI.
Troopers believed that Boggs was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was transported to have a blood draw. Â Boogs told authorities that he had used methamphetamine earlier that morning.
Robert Boggs is facing charges of terroristic threats, DUI, driving revoked for DUI, and a prohibited person with a firearm. Â He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 7,000 dollar bond.
