MARLINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Pocahontas County Commission has announced that a Special Session meeting is set to take place on Thursday.
The session, set to take place at 10:00am on Thursday, January 18, 2023, will serve as the “kickoff meeting” for the EPA Tannery project.
The project will entail cleanup of the Former Howes Tannery site. Past site, which in the past saw use for leather tanning. Various contaminants, including asbestos in building materials, heavy metals, PCB compounds, volatile organic compounds, and semi-volatile organic compounds, are believed to be present at the site area.
A planned cleanup effort for the property by the Pocahontas County Commission will utilize grant funds with the hope of redeveloping the site and expanding the East Fork Industrial Park.
