POINT PLEASANT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One juvenile individual has been taken into custody following a threat issued to Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School on Wednesday which resulted in the school being placed on lockdown.
Mason County Sheriff Corey Miller reports that, upon learning of a purported safety threat on Wednesday, multiple law enforcement entities, including the Mason County Sheriff’s Department, Point Pleasant Police Department, and West Virginia State Police, made their way swiftly to the school’s campus at 280 Scenic Drive.
Through coordination between law enforcement, 911 dispatchers, and Point Pleasant High staff, authorities were able to successfully locate the suspected threat before clearing the area.
According to Sheriff Miller, one juvenile individual – the identity of whom remains confidential at the time of writing – was arrested in relation to the investigation.
Miller also reserved praise not only for law enforcement responders, for the staff of PPJSHS, particularly for their quick response and thorough preparation for incidents such as that which occurred on Wednesday.
“Dealing with safety threats in any school setting is a very tense situation. I can say personally, the staff at each of our county schools have been prepared when safety events occur,” said Miller.
“Today was no exception. Staff and administrators at PPJSHS were prepared and executed their lockdown plan perfectly. This allowed law enforcement to have full access to open hallways and made communication between staff and law enforcement much easier. I am extremally proud of my department, the WVSP, and Point Pleasant PD for how quickly we had officers in position to deal with any viable threat.”
