ROMNEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A missing persons investigation reached a tragic conclusion on Monday as a Hampshire County man was found deceased near the vehicle in which he had been traveling.
Authorities with the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office on Monday reached out to members of the public for assistance in locating 26-year-old Jason Tyler Shingleton, who had last been seen in the early morning hours on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
The HCSO on Tuesday reports that, at about 12:20pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, Shingleton was located by a citizen in a deep creek bed along Northwestern Pike (U.S. Rt. 50) just west of the Fox Hollow Road intersection. The discovery came about following a concerted search effort involving several Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department officers, West Virginia State Police members, and concerned citizens throughout the area.
Law enforcement has determined that Shingleton had been traveling west on Northwestern Pike at the time of his passing, when his 2012 Chevrolet Cruze is believed to have gone off the right side of the roadway before crashing into a creek bank several feet ahead.
Upon discovery of the scene, it was determined that Shingleton was ejected from the vehicle, and was found deceased at the scene.
Authorities do not suspect foul play to have been a factor in Shingleton’s passing, though the crash remains under investigation by the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office.
Along with members of the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, the scene saw response from Medical Examiner Chris Guynn, Hampshire County EMS and the Romney Fire Department.
