Independence 8, Nicholas County 7
Summersville – Independence senior Clay Basham hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to lift the Patriots past Nicholas County 8-7 Thursday in a key sectional showdown.
Basham also had a double and scored three times, while James Williams collected three hits on the night.
Zach Smith pitched a clean sixth inning and Basham slammed the door with three strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win.
Caleb Burns had two hits and two RBI for the Grizzlies, while Ira Mylott and Alex Pritt also had two hits.
Summers County 5, Westside 4
Hinton – Summers County knocked off Westside Thursday 5-4 aided by a sixth inning comeback.
A double from Ben Lane followed by a Brandon Isaac single tied the game before Isaac later stole his way to third base and scored on a balk for the go-ahead run.
Isaac knocked in two runs on the night and Ryan Oliveros plated one for the Bobcats.
Zach Short and Kadien Vance each had an RBI for the Renegades.
Shady Spring 16, Oak Hill 3 (5 innings)
The Tigers scored 13 runs across two innings to roll past Oak Hill 16-3 Thursday in five innings.
Parker Brown and Jacob Meadows knocked in three runs each and Brodie Seabolt had two RBI for Shady who hosts Bluefield tonight.
Seabolt and Tyler Reed had two hits each. Meadows pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and fanning five to pick up the win.
Hunter Elswick and Connor Smith each had a double for Oak Hill.
