CHARLESTON, W.Va. – It did not take long for George Washington’s Sai’Vyon Brown to make his presence felt last week on the road against rival South Charleston.
The senior scored from 10 yards out on the Patriots’ first possession last Friday, and early in the second quarter he broke loose for a 41-yard touchdown run through the Black Eagles’ defense.
Brown finished the contest with 137 rushing yards and two scores as GW pummeled South Charleston 54-0. For his efforts, Brown has been named the Lootpress Kanawha Valley Player of the Week. The award is sponsored by The Law Offices of Brandon S. Steele.
“[Brown] is having a really good season right now,” veteran GW head coach Steve Edwards said. “He came in with a great attitude and he has worked really hard.”
The talented GW senior has amassed 592 yards through four games this season to go with five touchdowns. The Patriots have plenty of talent at the skill positions, but Brown has been a difference-maker in 2024 as GW has rolled off four consecutive wins to open the season.
“He has worked on a lot of things to better his game and better his leadership,” Edwards said. “He leads this team and he does a good job of it. I couldn’t ask for anymore, really, I just hope that he can continue with this success. He’s a shifty runner – a different kind of runner than most – and he does a really good job with his own little style.”
Capital freshman quarterback Peyton Grigbsy, who completed 14 of 19 pass attempts for 131 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-0 shutout on the road at St. Albans last week, won the Community Choice fan vote with 54 percent of the more than 66,000 votes cast coming in for the Cougars’ QB. Grigsby advances to the Community Choice poll at the end of the regular season, with the winner of that poll awarded a $500 scholarship by the Lootpress Foundation.
