Bluefield – Brylee Stephenson knocked in a direct kick and Catherine Maxwell scored on a penalty kick to send Midland Trail past Bluefield, 2-0 Tuesday.
Keeper Mary McGraw has 15 saves to secure a clean sheet in the season opener for the Patriots.
Midland Trail (1-0) hosts James Monroe Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Mercer Christian 7, Kings 1
Princeton – Landon Murnahan scored three goals and assisted on two more as Mercer Christian defeated the Kings Warriors 7-1 Tuesday night at Mercer Christian.
MJ Patton added two more goals of his own and assisted on another in the Cavaliers’ rout.
Mercer Christian improves to 2-0 and will host Ignite Christian on Thursday at 6:30.
