CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – “The race for governor in West Virginia has gained national attention as Lieutenant General Michael Flynn weighed in today with his choice of a candidate. General Flynn and Secretary Warner were guests on the WRNR Talk Radio Show with Rob Mario and Navy Admiral Bill Stubblefield.
President Trump’s former National Security Advisor announced Tuesday that he is proud to endorse Secretary of State Mac Warner to be West Virginia’s next governor.
As one of the country’s foremost intelligence and national security experts, General Flynn recognizes the link between free, fair, and secure elections and the legitimacy and effectiveness of government. In his endorsement, the former national security advisor highlights Secretary Warner’s exceptional work in West Virginia at creating the country’s finest, most respected election system.
General Flynn’s military career included tours throughout the world with the 82nd Airborne Division, the 25th Infantry Division, and Joint Special Operations Command. In 2012, he was promoted to Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and simultaneously became commander of the Joint Command for Intelligence.
General Flynn’s superior abilities in this demanding assignment earned him Donald Trump’s appointment in 2016 as the President’s National Security Advisor.
‘I wholeheartedly endorse Army veteran Mac Warner to be the next Governor of West Virginia,’ said General Flynn.
‘Ultimately, our national security is directly related to how legitimate the government is viewed by our citizens. If elections are in question, then respect for government is diminished and our consequent ability to protect the country is degraded,’ Flynn said.
‘Secretary Warner’s work on election integrity and security has set the example for what is needed right now across this entire country. As Governor, Mac Warner will bring his signature ability to handle the most vexing, complex problems to every issue confronting West Virginia.’
Secretary Warner noted that both he and General Flynn served in Afghanistan, share conservative values, and have dedicated their lives to service of our country. Warner said he takes great pride in receiving President Trump’s National Security Advisor’s endorsement.
‘General Flynn articulated in his endorsement the importance of election integrity. His citing West Virginia as the standard for America is something every citizen of West Virginia should wear as a badge of honor. Elections are the cornerstone of our representative form of government and essential to the health and future of our Republic,’ Warner said.
Prior to being elected WV Secretary of State in 2016, Mac Warner served five years in Afghanistan with the U.S. State Department. Prior to that, he served 23 years in the U.S. Army retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Secretary Warner is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and the WVU School of Law. Secretary Warner is the only military veteran running for the Republican Party nomination for governor of West Virginia in 2024.
NOTE: General Flynn is the second high profile military officer to endorse Mac Warner for governor. Earlier this year, Brigadier General John “Doc” Bahnsen of Hancock County joined Warner and more than 100 other veterans at the State Capitol to announce the formation of the “Veterans & Military Families for Warner for Governor Coalition”. Coalition members in all 55 counties have endorsed Warner for governor.
