RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, authorities responded to a tragic incident involving the death of a three-year-old child at a residence on Walker Street in Ghent.
Sergeant S.M. Thompson of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene after a CPR-in-progress call was made via Raleigh County 911. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male toddler in a back bedroom, immediately performing CPR until EMS arrived to transport the child to Raleigh General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
During the initial response, officers identified two adults present at the residence, who were identified as the child’s legal guardians: Nathaniel Wilburn and Angeletta Rumbold. While investigating the scene, law enforcement observed signs suggestive of a drug overdose and found drug paraphernalia in plain view. A subsequent search warrant, executed with the assistance of the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Response Team, uncovered multiple bags containing substances believed to be heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia across the home, including hypodermic needles, digital scales, and powder-coated straws.
Investigators also found photographic evidence on memory cards recovered from the residence. In one series of images, Mr. Wilburn appears to be injecting himself while holding a young child, further raising concerns regarding the children’s safety and well-being in the home.
Public records reveal a troubling history at the residence, with multiple 911 calls reporting prior overdoses and CPR-in-progress incidents dating back as far as 2012. Law enforcement has identified three additional children residing in the home, ranging in age from one to four years.
Both Wilburn and Rumbold now face serious charges of child neglect, resulting in death.
