ORIGINAL STORY 6/23/25: A Raleigh County woman is behind bars after being accused of violently assaulting her 5-year-old daughter in a disturbing case of suspected child abuse.
According to responding officers, the incident occurred on June 19, when deputies were called to a residence in Raleigh County after a report of a potential child abuse situation. Upon arrival, authorities spoke with brother of the suspect, Rebecca Bailey.
The brother told deputies he witnessed his sister pinning her young daughter to the concrete front porch, screaming that the child had a “demon” inside her. Fearing for the girl’s safety, he intervened and pulled Rebecca off the child.
The 5-year-old victim told deputies and Deputy Eller that her mother had put her finger in her mouth and ripped out her teeth. Deputies observed blood on the child’s fingers and confirmed that her bottom two front teeth were freshly missing.
A family member was contacted to care for the child, and Child Protective Services was immediately notified.
Rebecca Bailey was taken into custody at the scene, processed, and transported to Southern Regional Jail, where she remains on a $50,000 bond.
All statements made by the complainant and the child were captured on body camera footage.
The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
