HARRISVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office saw the swearing of the newest member of its law enforcement team on Thursday, as K9 Luna officially came aboard.
The two-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd will be taking on roles in multiple areas as a result of her extensive training.
“Luna is trained to be a dual purpose police K9, which means she is trained and certified in suspect apprehension and tracking and narcotics detection,” said the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office.”
Luna was sworn in on Thursday, July 20, 2023, by Judge Sweeney. The K9 officer will be working alongside handler Sgt. K. Barnes of the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office.
“Sgt. Barnes has a vast amount of experience and has already been doing a lot of good work with her new partner, Luna,” continued the department.
“The Ritchie County Sheriffs Office is very excited to see what all Luna and Sgt. Barnes will accomplish in the years to come.”
