MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University’s new head football coach, Rich Rodriguez, was officially introduced in a lively press conference at the WVU Coliseum on Friday afternoon, marking his return to the Mountaineers after a 17-year hiatus.
Rodriguez, who previously coached WVU from 2001 to 2007, was welcomed by thousands of enthusiastic fans.
The event featured a live broadcast on ESPN by former WVU standout and media personality Pat McAfee.
The press conference began with an introduction by WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker, who spearheaded Rodriguez’s return to Morgantown.
As Rodriguez took the podium, the event was briefly interrupted by an unruly fan who shouted repeatedly from the crowd.
The audience swiftly responded with loud boos directed at the heckler, who was promptly removed from the venue.
Seizing the moment, Rodriguez addressed the interruption with a quick-witted remark: “Okay, any other Pitt fans can leave the building.”
The comment was met with thunderous applause and the familiar ‘ESP’ chant.
During his remarks, Rodriguez reflected on his earlier tenure at WVU, openly acknowledging his controversial departure for the University of Michigan in 2007.
He emphasized his commitment to rebuilding the Mountaineers’ football program and creating a strong culture within the team.
