FRAME, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Kanawha County roadway has been shut down following an accident involving a semi truck on Thursday.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, a semi truck which was hauling lumber crashed in the Frame area, ultimately going over a 50-foot hillside.
The crash occurred in the 1700 block of Hurricane Road, with the road itself having since been shut down entirely as a result.
Law enforcement reports that the truck appeared to have traveling south prior the crash and, while attempting to negotiate a series of winding curves, the truck trailer is believed to have gone off the left shoulder of the road and fallen approximately 50 feet over the hillside.
At the time of writing, deputies and first responders have been unable to located or identify the driver, with the treacherous terrain further complicating rescue efforts.
Heavy Equipment Wreckers have been contacted to begin formulating a plan at the scene to remove the truck and debris.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is said to also be on the scene of the accident, with members currently assessing fluid leakage and the risk it may have if contaminating nearby streams.
Deputies believe that the driver was possibly lost or misguided by GPS at the time of the accident, as the involved road is said not to be suitable for large trucks.
“As the investigation and rescue efforts continue throughout the morning, we will provide additional updates as they become available,” said the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident marks the latest in a series of accidents involving large vehicles throughout Southern West Virginia over the past several days.
