WASHINGTON, DC (LOOTPRESS) – Senator Jim Justice has introduced his first bill, the “Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams National Medal of Honor Monument Location Act,” which would authorize the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation to establish a permanent monument on the National Mall.
“Medal of Honor recipients have displayed bravery in the face of adversity, and it is important for us to pay tribute,” said Justice. “This bill is the least we can do to honor their heroic deeds with a permanent place on the National Mall.”
Justice is joined by Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC), James Risch (R-ID), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Ted Budd (R-NC), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Tom Cotton (R-AR) in supporting the legislation.
Honoring Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams
The bill pays tribute to Hershel “Woody” Williams, a West Virginia native and the last surviving Medal of Honor recipient from World War II. As Governor, Justice inducted Williams into the West Virginia Military Hall of Fameand recognized his dedication to Gold Star families, including his annual fundraising motorcycle ride in their honor.
The bill has already passed the House of Representatives unanimously and now moves forward for further consideration in the Senate.
