BEAVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An SRJ inmate is facing additional charges after he was caught with drugs he was storing inside a condom.
On May 31, 2024, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Police received a call through the West Virginia State Police Beckley Dispatch about suspected controlled substances seized from an inmate at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver, West Virginia.
Upon arrival, Police spoke with Corporal Donte Nabors, who stated that while monitoring the CCTV video surveillance of cell H5, he observed an inmate, identified as Paul Garcia, retrieve an unknown object from his sock. Cpl. Nabors further disclosed that Garcia turned his back to the camera and continued manipulating the unknown item while a second inmate stood at the cell door as a lookout.
Correctional officers subsequently removed all inmates from cell H5 and seized the contraband from Garcia. The contraband appeared to be a clear condom containing a purple liquid substance, which also contained a piece of paper with a white powdery substance suspected to be fentanyl. Cpl. Nabors field-tested the substance, and it tested positive for fentanyl.
Police then charged the inmate, Paul Garcia, with one count of Inmate in Possession of a Controlled Substance while Incarcerated in a State Facility. This offense occurred at SRJ in Raleigh County, West Virginia.
