SUMMERS COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Summers County students should feel extra safe when they return to school this fall.
Wednesday, June 16, the Summers County Sheriffs Department announced that starting this school year, the Summers County Sheriff’s Office will station two full-time deputies in the county’s school facilities.
According to the department, one deputy will be stationed at the high school campus, and the other will be in the elementary school system, which includes Hinton, Talcott and Jumping Branch.
“We are pleased to announce the implementation of school resource officers in our school systems,” stated Chief Deputy T.S. Adkins. “It is a great day for the citizens of Summers County and our children.”
According to Adkins, this is the first time in the department’s history that they have been able to supply the school system with full-time deputies.
He says the resource officers will be put in a position to make an impact on school-aged kids, placing emphasis on the deterrence of negative behavior by being positive role models.
“…we look forward to serving our county in a way that we haven’t been able to until now,” Adkins added. “None of this would be possible without the hard work of the Summers County Sheriff’s Department, the Summers County Board of Education, the Summers County Commission and the City of Hinton.”
