SUMMERSVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) field office in Summersville, Nicholas County, has been cut as part of broader cost-cutting measures, according to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The Summersville MSHA office has been responsible for conducting mine inspections and enforcing federal regulations aimed at preventing deaths, illnesses, and injuries in the mining industry.
The cut is part of a series of DOGE budget reductions affecting the Department of Labor.
According to DOGE, the lease for the Summersville office cost $107,456 annually. Terminating the lease is expected to result in total savings of $402,961.
It remains unclear whether employees at the Summersville location have been reassigned, laid off, or terminated.
The office is located at 818 Arbuckle Road in Summersville.
