ELKHORN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 19-year-old Michigan resident has been arrested and charged with arson following two structure fires in the Elkhorn area of McDowell County, West Virginia.
On Monday, November 11, 2024, Trooper E.C. Nunn of the West Virginia State Police responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at the Elkhorn Head Start building. The caller noted a suspicious individual leaving the scene. The suspect, later identified as Anthony Bale Scott, allegedly ignited the fire before leaving the area.
Scott returned shortly afterward and reportedly set a second structure ablaze within Elkhorn. Trooper Nunn located him as he was attempting to leave the vicinity of the second fire.
Further investigation by Trooper Nunn confirmed Scott’s involvement in both fires. Authorities believe Scott traveled from Michigan to West Virginia by train-hopping. He has been taken into custody and is facing two counts of second-degree arson.
The investigation remains active, with state and local authorities continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
