FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A campground and lodging destination near the New River Gorge Bridge has temporarily closed following flooding and storm damage in Fayette County earlier this week.
The Outpost New River Gorge announced the temporary closure Thursday, saying crews are assessing and restoring areas of the property affected by the recent severe weather.
“Due to recent flooding and storm damage in the New River Gorge area, The Outpost is temporarily closed while we assess and restore certain areas of the property,” the business said in an update.
Guests with upcoming reservations have been contacted by email, according to The Outpost.
The campground said it will reopen as soon as conditions allow and officials are confident the property can safely provide its normal experience for guests.
The Outpost, located along Fayette Station Road in Fayetteville, offers cabins, RV sites, tent camping and other lodging options. The property is located near New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and less than a mile from the New River Gorge Bridge.
The closure follows significant flooding and storm damage across Fayette County and portions of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve earlier this week. Flooding, washouts, debris slides and fallen trees resulted in several road and recreation-area closures throughout the gorge.
Fayette Station Road was among the areas affected, with officials reporting large downed trees near The Outpost following Sunday’s storms.
The Outpost said it appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as it prioritizes communication with guests who have upcoming reservations.
No reopening date has been announced.
