OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Couple Nate and Rachel Adams, originally from Ohio, had come to visit West Virginia multiple times as Rachel’s family had a cabin in the state. One day, the couple decided that they no longer wanted to be visitors and decided to move and call Almost Heaven their home.
Nate says that at first, he was nervous about the move. “We found a home on Facebook marketplace and bought it. We wondered if we would be treated like outsiders, but instead, we were welcomed into the small neighborhood,” he said.
The couple says that they fell in love with West Virginia and the New River Gorge area. So much so they decided to purchase two more homes in the area to fix up and turn into unique experiences for guests to enjoy.
“We wanted to try to find something to fix up and turn into a Candy House,” Nate said. “Obviously the real estate market in the New River Gorge is hot, but we noticed one property that had sat on the market: two small houses right next to each other in Oak Hill. One of them was already painted light blue and purple, perfect to be a Candy House.”
Nate says that his wife Rachel got right to work on creating the look of the Candy House. “She started making a bunch of art for it like a painting that says “Pie makes it all better”, a unicorn-painted fireplace, a cotton candy-themed bedroom, and of course a Willy Wonka-themed escape room,” he stated.
They weren’t done there as they put creative ideas and motion and renovated the next-door home into a gamer’s paradise. “We like board games so we thought why not, let’s make it game-themed,” Nate explained.
The Gamer’s Paradise home features a coat rack with the outfits of the Clue characters, a 19-foot by 19-foot custom New River Gorge Monopoly board, a working Mousetrap trap that drops from the ceiling, Starry Night-inspired paintings with Pac-Man and Mario, a huge wall decorated with covers of nostalgic board games, and many other little details.
The couple says that their unique homes have been a hit with guests and that people young and old have come to stay.
