UPDATE: MONROE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Monroe County Commission met today during their regular meeting to discuss ousting the Sheriff.
On Friday, May 26, 2023, the Monroe County Commission voted unanimously to order Jeremy Meadows, County Clerk, and Justin St. Clair, Prosecuting Attorney, to draft a resolution to remove Monroe County Sheriff Jeff Jones from public office.
During today’s meeting on June 14th, the commission voted 3 to 0, to suspend the resolution on ousting Sheriff Jones, until the West Virginia State Police finishes its investigation.
According to a release, the action stems from an ongoing investigation requested by the County Commission and conducted by the Prosecuting Attorney over several situations in which Sheriff Jones and his Chief Deputy, James Hylton, have failed to perform the responsibilities of the office appropriately.
Due to the nation of the accusations and the status of the ongoing investigation, the commission has not released any more details.
