PENNINGTON GAP, VA (LOOTPRESS) – On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Chauncey Robinson was found unresponsive at United States Penitentiary (USP) Lee, in Pennington Gap, Virginia.
Responding employees initiated life-saving measures. Emergency medical services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued. Mr. Robinson was transported by EMS to a local hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.
No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured and at no time was the public in danger.
Mr. Robinson was a 37-year-old male sentenced in the Middle District of Tennessee to an aggregate 132-month sentence for Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of 5 Grams or More of Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Distribute and/or Distribution of 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime. He had been in custody at USP Lee since February 23, 2023.
USP Lee is a high security facility.
