FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Park Service, Preserve WV and AmeriCorps are seeking volunteers to assist with a historic preservation project at the Kaymoor Historic Site in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
As part of the citizen science initiative, volunteers will hike to the historic site and help identify and remove invasive plant species that are obstructing the area. Organizers say the project will help protect both the site’s historic features and its surrounding natural habitats.
In addition to restoration work, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to distinguish native plants from invasive species, explore the history of the former mining town and mine, and enjoy time outdoors while contributing to the preservation of one of the park’s historic resources.
The project is looking for volunteers who can commit approximately five to six hours per visit, with repeat volunteers ideally participating twice a month from July through November 2026.
Those interested in volunteering or learning more about the project can contact Project Manager Madison Cornett Lilly at madison_cornett@partner.nps.gov. Organizers encourage community members to get involved and help preserve the history of the Kaymoor Historic Site for future generations.
