CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A group of West Virginia lawmakers has introduced a resolution seeking to rename the state’s highest peak, Spruce Knob, as “Trump Mountain” in honor of President Donald J. Trump.
House Concurrent Resolution 33, sponsored by Delegates Coop-Gonzalez, Anders, Barnhart, Bridges, Brooks, DeVault, Dillon, Heckert, Linville, Lucas, Marple, Sheedy, and White, was introduced on February 14 and referred to the House Rules Committee.
The resolution cites Trump’s popularity in West Virginia, where he won every county in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections.
Lawmakers highlighted his support for the state’s coal industry, job creation efforts, and infrastructure projects as reasons for the proposed tribute.
“Spruce Knob symbolizes strength, endurance, and resilience, qualities that epitomize the leadership and perseverance demonstrated by President Donald J. Trump,” the resolution states.
If adopted, the resolution would call on the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to consider renaming Spruce Knob to “Trump Mountain” five years after Trump’s passing.
The measure also encourages West Virginians to reflect on Trump’s legacy and his impact on the state and nation.
Spruce Knob, located in Pendleton County, is the highest point in West Virginia, standing at 4,863 feet.
The resolution does not carry legal weight but serves as a formal request to the federal naming board. It remains to be seen whether the proposal will gain traction.
