MINGO COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia man was airlifted to the hospital after a train struck his vehicle.
According to the West Virginia State Police, today, Sunday, March 24, 2024, Tpr. J. P. Ziegler was dispatched to Bittersweet Lane in Naugatuck in Mingo County in reference to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and train.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as 62-year-old David Maynard of Kermit, drove across a marked railroad crossing and failed to yield for an oncoming Norfolk Southern train.
The victim’s vehicle was struck and overturned.
The victim was airlifted from the area and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
