WHEELING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wheeling man has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation that stretched from Las Vegas to the Ohio Valley.
Daryl Smith, 50, received a 120-month sentence on Wednesday for distributing cocaine base, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Following his release, Smith will serve three years of supervised release.
Court documents revealed that Smith was selling cocaine base in Ohio County and had prior convictions for drug and assault offenses.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carly Nogay and investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, the Marshall County Drug Task Force, and the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force.
Other agencies involved included the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the West Virginia State Police, the Wheeling Police Department, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, and the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.
