KINGWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia National Guard has announced the cancellation of the 2025 Retiree Appreciation Day, originally scheduled for the first weekend in April at Camp Dawson in Kingwood.
According to the Guard, the decision comes in response to recent guidance from the Department of Defense, which has prioritized funding for combat readiness.
Retiree Appreciation Day serves as an opportunity for military retirees to receive updates on benefits, discuss current retiree issues, and reconnect with veteran service organizations.
In a statement posted to Facebook, the Guard expressed regret over the cancellation and acknowledged the disappointment it may cause.
Officials emphasized their commitment to honoring military retirees and stated that they hope to host the event again in the future when circumstances allow.
